Improvement & Management

Range & Wildlife solutions was born of a need for providing excellent customer service to property owners in pursuit of their land use goals.

We combined a number of skills aquired by years of experience and education in the ag-business, wildlife, and rangeland management fields.

GIS Range specialist Clinton S. Keating has hands on GIS experience working as a GIS specialist for the Farm Service Agency. Mr. Keating recieved an Agri-business degree from Texas Tech University. Mr. Keating also has experience with farming practices in the central to West Texas regions from experience adjusting crops. With a minimum of 15 years experience in the hunting and fishing industry, Mr. Keating is more than capable of offering Information Technology to a team filled with outdoor knowledge.

The Team Leader, Dr. M. Scott Keating, has broad scale plant identification, collection, and sampling experience.  As Operations Manager for a large cattle company operating 120,000 cows in 9 states in the West, Midwest, South, and Southwest yielded diverse knowledge on of range plants.  Managing a 100-section cow/calf ranch on the native western range furthered his plant management knowledge. His Ph.D. dissertation, Prediction of Diet Quality Parameters of Rocky Mountain Elk Via Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) Fecal Profiling, studied the plant/animal interactions of a large herbivore on their native western range.  The research required identification of over 350 plants known to be consumed by elk and traveling some 12,000+ miles to collect  those plant parts used in blending  diverse diets to replicate an elk’s daily diet selection.  Dr. Keating’s plant taxonomy training began with Dr. E. J. Dysterhuis in the late 1960’s and continued on through industry and Dr. Stephen Hatch in more recent years at Texas A&M University.  He taught range plant identification and computer consulting classes at Texas A&M University.  He was team leader in performing a standing crop forage inventory on the 260,000-acre Ft. Hood military reservation. Dr. Keating collected 100% of the field data which earned the state's highest environmental award (the TCEQ's Environmental Excellence Award -Agriculture Division for 2006) presented for range revegetation work for the Department of Defense.

While on the Texas A&M University campus he delivered over 60 seminars on recreational land use of ecosystems throughout North America.

Other consulting projects included building a fire model for the USDA and scripting various Ecological Site Descriptions in Texas and New Mexico. He has filled the niche in being a "consultant to the consultants" along the seam where research meets practical application.

Over the past 40 years, Dr. Keating has worked with many wildlife management systems and guided dozens of hunters successfully to their harvests.
